Basic Information

The mTau-Tau working group has been officially funded within the Helmholtz Alliance in April 2008. Its members come from various ATLAS, CMS and Theory institutions.

Its aims are:
Development and verification of algorithms related to tau-tau final states, especially via exchange of analysis concepts and experiences between ATLAS and CMS, and via dialogue with theorists, e.g. about theoretical uncertainties. This encompasses all physics channels involving tautau mass distributions, like  SM Z--> tautau, SUSY h/H/A --> tautau or mTau-Tau endpoints in SUSY cascades.

Current fields of activities are:

  • establishing procedures to extract the shape and normalisation of Tau-Tau mass distributions from data (embedding, reweighting)
  • evaluate the power of different mass definitions
    (collinear, visible, lepton, transverse, ...)
  • develop and verify methods of background extraction,
    (sidebands, "ABCD" methods, OppositeSign/SameSign, ...)
  • assess non-experiment specific  performance effects
    (pileup, trigger, ETmiss resolution, misalignments,...)

The current conveners are:
Michael Kobel (ATLAS, TU Dresden)
Günter Quast (CMS, Uni Karlsruhe)
